Alistair Murray Recognized with First Annual United States Sailboat Show Sailing Industry Distinguished Service Award

Celebrating a successful opening day of the 45th United States Sailboat Show, the Annapolis Boat Shows hosted a launch party to welcome a star-studded cast from the sailing industry to Annapolis.

Keynote speaker Ken Read, considered one of the world’s most accomplished and celebrated sailors, spoke on the state of the industry and emphasized the growing enthusiasm for all levels of sailing that is being generated by increased attention on high performance racing in all age groups. The night culminated in the presentation of the first annual Sailing Industry Distinguished Service Award, intended to honor a recipient who has distinguished him or herself through continued and unselfish service to the overall advancement of the sailing industry.

 Alistair Murray was recognized for his many contributions to the sailing industry and his ability to blend the sport of sailing with business.

Working for Ronstan since 1976, he has given back to the industry at every turn.

From Melbourne, Australia, Alistair has served on the board of Sail America and founded the International Sailing Summit. Over the years he has received many honors including the Centenary Medal, Australian Export Hero, 1999 and 2002 Marine Industry Achiever, and the Governor of Victoria Export Award. For many years he has been a competitor and event sponsor of the Tasar Championships.

Alistair Murry 2Alistair moved to America twice through out his 40-year career with Ronstan, once in 1980 and again in 1992. He likes to say, “I love America.

It’s the second best country in the world.” The award came with a stunning custom engraved Anniversary Barometer, provided by Weems & Plath.

With its 70th edition this May, the Swiftsure International Yacht Regatta is the longest running cross-border race on the West Coast, and the Pacific Northwest’s premiere challenge of sailing skill, endurance, strategy…and luck.

The race began in 1930 as a weekend challenge among three Northwest yacht clubs – Seattle, Royal Vancouver and Royal Victoria – and is now a week-long sailing celebration in Victoria’s Inner Harbour, hosted by Royal Vic. Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
