Owen Sound Finds Old Shipwreck

Shipwreck

The City of Owen Sound has discovered a shipwreck.

During underwater investigations in preparation for the construction of the outfall portion of the city’s wastewater treatment plant upgrade, a ship’s hull was discovered.

A sonar survey and subsequent dive has revealed the wreck is located approximately five metres from the end of the existing pipe, which is approximately 200 metres off shore from the sewage plant.

Owen Sound will be retaining the services of a marine archaeologist to conduct a more detailed investigation of the wreck in order to evaluate its origin, the importance of this wreck, and the presence of any other cultural artifacts.
