The Canadian Sailing Fraternity Will Miss David Millar

The Canadian Sailing Fraternity lost a dear friend on April 22 2015. As a young sailor growing up in Toronto I remember David at National Yacht club, working, always working on his Star boat. He was a perfectionist. 

David was born in Toronto, Ontario, on April 5 1930 the  son of Thomas and Leola Millar.

The recent obituary from the Globe and mail follows:

Educated at Western Technical School and Ontario College of Art, David founded David Millar & Associates Ltd., a graphic design and print communications firm. As a teenager, David began building sailboats with his father and brothers in the backyard. This led to a lifelong passion for competitive sailing, first at the National Yacht Club and later at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club. He built and raced Star boats, chasing the wind all over North America.

A gifted and accomplished watercolour artist, David was a founding owner/partner (2003) of Red Eye Gallery in the Historic Distillery District, Toronto. His paintings are held in private collections in Canada, England, Australia and the USA. His artwork was featured in the prestigious publication “American Artist”. He left us a legacy of beautiful paintings that will always remind us of his creative spirit.

Predeceased by son Brian (2005) and forever loved by his wife Kathy, children Sue (Gunter), Laurie (John), Bruce (Barb), Jeff (Melissa) and James (Elissa) and daughter-in-law Jennifer (Robert). Cool Grandpa to Jennie, Luke, Eric, Megan, Kelly, Sydney, Alana and Oliver. Also remembered by Margaret Goddard. A kind and gentle man, friend to many.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please consider a donation to The Alzheimer Society of Toronto iPod Project or to a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. A commemorative celebration of David’s life was held at the Mount Pleasant Visitation Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road (east gate entrance), Toronto (416-485-5572) on Sunday, May 3, 2015.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
